Anne Bonny was one of the most famous female pirates of all time. Born in Ireland around 1700, she spent her early years moving around the world, ultimately landing in the Bahamas. Nassau was a known sanctuary for pirates, and it was there that she met Jack Rackham. He was both pirate partner and lover, and he called her his “Bonny Anne”. She became one of the most recognizable and wanted faces of the Golden Age of Piracy. Captured alongside Rackham in October 1720, Anne Bonny was sentenced to death - but her execution was stayed by pregnancy. What happened to her next is unknown. Some claim she died in prison, while others believe she escaped. All we know for certain is that the rest of Bonny Anne Bonny's life remains shrouded in mystery.
