Justin “misterjustin” McCoy of secretweaponminiatures.com (SWM) supports the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation (NOCF) in more ways than we can list.  He signed on as one of the premiere artists contributing his skills to the NOCF Macragge Project.  He provides $25 SWM gift certificates in the weekly drawings for raffle participants.  And it didn’t take him long to team up with Thomas Wynn and Dave Taylor (who spearheads the Project for NOCF) to turn an idea into reality by creating unique and amazing bases for The Battle of Macragge.

Six years ago, Thomas – inspired by the base on Marneus Calgar – designed and laser cut bases for Dave who was working on his own Ultramarine project. Leap forward to the NOCF Macragge Project currently under way and we find Justin creating and painting Marneus Calgar for the Ultramarine Army. Similarly inspired, Justin spoke with Dave about designing bases exclusive to the NOCF Macragge Project and, as quickly as all that, OMEGA BASES! They shipped to the Macragge Artists for both armies today.

broken columnsBut, wait, there’s more! Justin is also shipping a set of broken columns to each artist so they can create ruins and further customize the Ultra bases.

Snow Bundle SWMAnd that’s not all! Secret Weapon Miniatures’ Snow Bundle is being provided to each artist – and Dave is creating the step-by-step recipe to ensure all bases remain unique to Macragge.

He’s not done yet! Justin announced that SWM has created a limited edition run of these bases, and 50% of every Omega Base sale will be donated to the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation!

 About SWM:

The Story So Far…

Secret Weapon Miniatures was launched in September of 2009 with four core product concepts:

More Realism
Truer Scale
Uncompromising Quality
Fair Pricing

Even with more than 400 individual products those core values remain at the heart of what we do.

In 2010 we added the Secret Weapon Weathering Pigments to the catalog to bring high quality, pure pigments to wargamers and scale model hobbyists at reasonable prices with in-store support for retailers. That line now includes 23 individually selected, quality tested art and cosmetic grade pigments free from additives or fillers that will interfere with weathering techniques.

In 2011, with the help of Les Bursley, the Secret Weapon Washes joined the catalog to give hobbyists an alternative to the cheap, thinned inks being sold as washes by providing true acrylic washes with a liquid pigment base that can be used to wash, glaze or paint a model. Today there are 30 colors available with in-store rack support for retailers.

In 2012 we expanded to offer the largest selection of basing themes on the market, and introduced unique themed hollow designs like our “Blasted Wetlands” line. This selection continues to grow, and takes advantage of advances in 3D printing and milling technology to give us a level of unmatched precise detail.

In 2013 we’re refocusing on our “From The Ground Up ™” vision and expanding our line of weathering products, bases, terrain, and accessories — with an emphasis on model finishing, and comprehensive gaming and display environments. We also successfully funded the first four themes of our Tablescapes Tiles ™ modular gaming boards on Kickstarter, complete with matching bases and terrain, to give you a fully themed army, literally from the ground up.

About Powered Play Gaming:

Our Team

We’re Chris & Chris. It’s cute, we know…

Chris Wessling, CEO, came up with the idea for the kits about a year ago. His then 4 year old son wandered into the garage one day, and found a box of Warhammer 40K miniatures that had been collecting dust. Invigorated by the ability to share an old passion with his son, Chris bought him a new army and wondered, “Wouldn’t it be cool to put lights on this tank?” So, he researched it, looked at the tutorials and was frustrated by the complexity of what’s out there. Thus, using his US Navy nuclear reactor operator training, and NASA-spec soldering skills, he began creating the product.

A year later, he meets Chris Michaels, COO (Chris 2) – a marketing and PR guy who’s been helping launch startups, representing major tech firms and being a spokesperson for a major county fair. Chris 2 was intrigued, since he grew up building models with his dad and uncle, and remembered trying to put lights into model terrain sets and scale stealth fighters. He understood the marketing and business, and shared the passion for giving people the tools to be even more creative with their hobbies. It was a killer match and this past January, we formed PoweredPlay Gaming.

Today we’re often rubbing elbows in the Bay Area with local gamers, hobbyists, store owners and experts as we test our products, show off new prototypes and drool over the applications that other people come up with. We’re sponsoring local role-playing games, national tournaments like Adepticon and a range of other events, and we may be hosting one soon at a store near you.

“They” have said that a Fantasy Ogre Army would not raise as much for charity as other armies have. Who the heck are “they?!”  All it takes is one look at the first two pieces completed from “Man Eaters of the Great Maw” to know that “they” are wrong.  Wes Cogdal, of Stiff Neck Studios, is turning out a must-have army for WHFB players ~ in fact, it may be an army that any tabletop wargamer would like to have!

TheWarStore Philosophy

Written – first day of business, November 1st 1999

I have been in retailing all my life (Indeed the only reason I was taught math at all was so I could work a cash register), and learned at a very young age the key to retail success is always putting the customer first. If you are a TheWarStore customer I will do my best to make you happy. And that does not mean throwing around simple slogans, platitudes, or buzz words. In concrete terms my “Customer First” policies define what a TheWarStore shopping experience should be like:

– Low prices
– Fast Shipping
– Easy phone access and good email communication
– Fast resolution of order problems at no cost to you!
-Total confidentiality and security for credit card transactions and your personal information
– A site interested in your feedback and suggestions

Does this mean we never make a mistake? Not at all. But it does mean that everything around here happens under my watchful eye and I take full responsibility for it. We work hard every day to make your shopping experience worry and hassle free. And if we make a mistake we will fix it right away, and without cost to you. You have my word on that.

Encouraged by Dave Taylor to provide a starting point for the Ultramarine project, John Steining has posted a step-by-step tutorial documenting the process he uses for painting his UM army. The  team will begin work as a whole tweaking the process to perfect the plan for our charity UM army.  Swing by his 40K Hobby Blog and sneak a peak.  According to John, “This paint style works with a brush as well, it just needs light coats and a lot of blending.  For my ultras, the goal is to keep Kantor blue/black and straight Kantor blue showing as much as possible. Couple that with some extreme Calgar blue highlights and the scheme is basically 99%. The maccragge blue only exists to provide a richness of color for the mid tones.”

About KR Multicase:

Who are KR?

KR Multicase is a company dedicated to miniature figures and innovative storage solutions. We carry out all design and testing in-house for our cases trays and accessories, and manufacture and sell only our own products. We have 2 factories, one in the UK and one in the USA which enables us to serve our worldwide customers at minimum cost. KR provides the most versatile, cost effective and highest capacity miniature wargaming transport and storage system on the market, and with our postage inclusive prices mean that the price you see on the website is you pay to get it to your door – no hidden extras in the checkout!

The KR Products

The KR range of trays, cases and wargaming accessories provide safe and durable storage and transport for all wargaming miniatures, from the small skirmish games needing a case for maybe 5 or 10 figures up to armies needing cases for hundreds of figures, vehicles or cavalry. The standard size KR multicase can carry 200 28mm figures and is easily the highest capacity case per £, $ or € spent on a wargaming case.

More than just a case

The KR system for storage and transportation is the only interchangeable case system for miniature wargaming. The concept of the economical card cases which are fully interchangeable with each other in a transport bag, backpack or wheeled case is unique and provides gamers with just the solution they need. You can save huge amounts of money by using this system as you only need 1 transport bag and can purchase the economical and safe card cases to interchange as needed.

Our background

Some time ago when my son started collecting wargaming miniatures we found that the hobby can become very expensive indeed! His main aim was, as with most gamers and collectors to save his pocket money and amass the largest most powerful army possible. One main obstacle stood in his way – carry cases and their cost. As with many of his gaming pals he carried his figures around in shoe boxes and plastic bags with kitchen roll and bits of bubble wrap to protect his models (we have all seen this so often), well aware that carry cases were expensive. Hence the need for a durable, yet economic solution.

After many trials and much testing the KR Multicase was born. The outer case is made from the best material, heavy duty solid card (not as some people suspect, cheap corrugated card) and as such is incredibly durable. The original KR Multicase has now grown into its own well supported range of trays and transport bags and wheeled cases. You can now choose from the original card cases, the Kaiser transport bags to carry them in, the handy backpack, or the aluminium cases in 8 sizes and 2 colours, along with the Aquilla range for small skirmish games.

The aluminium KR Multicase range retains all the features of the original card case, especially the stackability and the snap closing lid. In addition these cases are lockable and have a shoulder strap for easier carrying. All the aluminium cases come with a clear self-adhesive pocket for labelling your army. Our tray range covers miniature wargaming in all scales from 6mm-28mm, as well as railways too. The 7 formats of core trays covers all gaming systems, and the custom cut trays are manufactured for specific models.

Whether you are a new gamer wanting to fund an ever increasing army and still carry and store your current one safely, or the more mature one whose better half wants those window sills and dining tables back, the KR Multicase is the perfect solution. Try one today!

The standard size case can carry 200 28mm figures and is easily the most figures you can carry per £, $ or € spent on any wargaming case. Try a cost comparison for safe storage and transport of approximately 500 28 mm figures, and a dozen tanks. Safely protected for around £100? Easily achieved in 4 standard KR Multicases, or in one of the larger cases like the quad aluminium, the KaiserFour or the 800 case.

The ever increasing range of custom cut trays we make for a wide range of figures and models, from GW, Dropzone Commander, Warmachine and Hordes, Bloodbowl, Wings of Glory and Subbuteo to name but a few, have their own pages and pdf TrayGuides for specific armies. Check them out to create the prefect case for your army. We have also made custom interiors for specific requirements (vehicles, monsters and so on), when our customers have asked – please contact us if you have a special requirements.

Sales are off and running for the NOCF 2014 Charity Armies!  We are pleased to report that the first raffle tickets were purchased for 20 chances on the Macragge Tyranid Army – and they were purchased by a tabletop wargamer in Paris, France!

The NOVA Open Charitable Foundation (NOCF) will open its 2014 charity army fundraising raffle season tomorrow, April 1, 2014.  Join the “Compassionate Force” by taking chances on winning one or more of the amazing armies being offered this year and supporting deserving charities in the process!

BACKGROUND:

The NOCF was created to assist international miniature painters and artists who produce armies as fundraising vehicles for charitable causes.  Recognizing the immense generosity of the worldwide tabletop wargamer, the NOCF was formed to bring this “Compassionate Force” together under a single banner with a broad international outreach.  Every raffle ticket purchased in support of these charity armies will contribute to causes which address the needs of humanitarian emergency relief, children’s concerns, medical research and the military.

In 2013, the worldwide tabletop wargaming community’s support of the NOCF charity army raffles raised over $10,000 which was donated to Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres, The Fisher House Foundation and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The three charity armies from 2013 were shipped from Washington, D.C. to winners in Washington State, Missouri and as far away as Tasmania, Australia!

2014 CHARITY ARMY RAFFLES:

*A Consortium of professional and award-winning artists from within the tabletop wargaming community has come together in support of the NOCF Macragge Project. Learn more about each HERE. The proceeds from these two armies will support Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres.

The NOCF expanded the work of the Consortium to two separate armies in 2014, representing Battle of Macragge, the epic clash between Tyranids of Hive Fleet Behemoth and Ultramarines led by Marneus Calgar. Both of these armies are full 1850-tuned armies, including numerous extra models for force flexibility.

  • ARMY #1: Battle of Macragge Ultramarine List

*Built by a combined force of hobbyists associated with the Penny Arcade forum, the Deathwatch Army has been donated to the NOCF with the request that it be raffled as a fundraiser for Child’s Play Charity. Forty pages of forum posts followed this army from musings on a “general 40K” thread to each model being painted by a different person over the course of a year, culminating in the most recent post which announced, “The army is in the care of the Nova Open Charitable Foundation. . . .” The handler, who wishes to remain anonymous, recognized that a lot of people had given of themselves to create this Deathwatch Army, and it had a lot of give back to the community. A staff member of the NOVA Open Tabletop Wargaming Convention, Martin Bagley, has agreed to take on the task of repairing and restoring this army to its original grandeur over the next few weeks.

NOCF sponsors have once again exceeded all expectations of generous giving. Each Sunday alternating sponsors will donate a $25 gift certificate for raffle; each Saturday, the NOCF will draw from the pool of raffle ticket holders and announce a winner. The more raffle tickets you purchase, and the earlier you acquire them, the better your odds of winning a gift certificate you can use toward the purchase of any item at our sponsors websites.

We’re looking for help in naming the charity lounge.  If you have any ideas, please send them to novacharities@gmail.com.

Following the charity army raffle drawings on September 1, 2013, the NOVA Open accountant reviewed the financials and verified the amount of money raised for each of our three named charitable organizations.  Checks were mailed on behalf of The Compassionate Force.  Shortly thereafter, Letters of Appreciation were received from Doctors Without Borders for the donation of $6,525, from Fisher House Foundation for the donation of $2,726, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for the donation of $1,434.

More than $10,000 was raised through the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation Charitable Army Raffle. The winners were selected through an online randomizer system and announced at the closing awards ceremony of the 2013 NOVA Open Convention.

And the winners are….

The Lightish Red Army to benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Jake Schneider Hobart Tasmania, Australia

House of the Silent King to benefit The Fisher House. Eric Fontaine Dixon, Missouri

Redemption of the Fallen to benefit Doctors Without Borders. Patrick Weber Central Point, Oregon

The highest bid for the Dark Angel Fortress was made by Frank Edwards of Westville, Indiana. The beautiful terrain just barely fit into the bed of Frank’s pickup truck to go home to Indiana.

“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” – Aristotle

The NOVA Open Charitable Foundation (NOCF) was formed with the belief our shared international community of tabletop hobbyists were capable of joining together to accomplish acts of significance to the world. Three incredible works of art have sustained that faith.

The 2013 NOVA Open Charitable Foundation Army Raffle campaign ends in less than two weeks. To date, over 6,000 tickets have been sold with the help of generous supporters like Justin McCoy (Secret Weapon Miniatures), NATFKA (Faeit212), DakkaDakka, TabletopGamingNews, Bartertown, thePaintingCorps – and, of course, the SPONSORS and ARTISTS themselves.

At the end of July, the above community posted together and, within three days, nearly 2500 tickets were sold.  In this Final Online Push to sell raffle tickets, the NOCF is hoping all of you can break that record by twice.

The NOVA Open Charitable Foundation (NOCF) is launching a FINAL ONLINE PUSH, calling the Worldwide Compassionate Force of tabletop wargamers together to support the Charity Army Raffles:

Redemption of the Fallen in support of Medecins sans Frontieres (aka Doctors Without Borders)

House of the Silent King in support of The Fisher House Foundation

Lightish Red Army in support of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Every army is complete and snug in their custom-fit KR Multicases. Each case has been augmented with custom artwork incorporating each force’s unique logo – these armies are one-of-a-kind every way you look at them!

In less than two weeks, the world can watch the drawings by logging onto the 11th Company Podcast’s U-Stream Sunday night, September 1, 2013, between 7:30 and 8:15pm EST.

You need not be present to win. The NOCF will ship each army to its new owner anywhere on the planet where delivery is possible!
